Welcome to my genealogy site.
Much of the information I have gathered is viewable without registration and you are welcome to browse and make use of that as much as you like. A significant amount of the records are, by default, subject to "privacy" restrictions. This means that anyone in the database who is alive or even assumed to be just possibly alive will not be viewable. Personally I don't care at all about privacy, but others certainly do! So I have to respect that and enforce such rules. If you register, initially at least, there will be no apparent difference in what you can view. The registration becomes more effective when (and if you can!) you identify *yourself* within the database. Then I can tie your username to your genealogy record. This then means that you will be able to see ALL the data for people within a certain "genealogical radius" of yourself. Basically you'll be able to see close relatives. Additionally, if you wish, I can enable your log-on to have the right to make changes to the data. Yup, you can add, delete and correct stuff. And I would encourage you to do so. Rest assured that you can't do any damage - any changes you make get passed back to me for approval and, anyway, everything is backed up. Most users are a little reticent to make changes - but please do - it's how we'll expand and improve the database. Of course I can't link your username to a record if that record isn't there. So if you can identify how you should link to existing records OR identify an entirely new line (they appear all the time!) then tell me and I'll enter the basic info, link you in to it and set you loose on adding to it! Above all, don't hesitate to get in touch to chat!! Sean Groarke

The name?
6 August 2006 - 12:32:26pm Groarke (and Groark, Groark, Grourke) Quite numerous: Mayo and scattered. Ir. Mag Ruairc. Ó Corráin & Maguire remark that the rare early name Ruarc may contain the word arg, a hero or champion. However, Woulfe and MacLysaght regard it as a Norse name, Ruadhrac from Hrothrekr. In any case, it is the basis for the Rourkes, always associated with Breifne. Groarke was a sept of the Southern Uà Néill, seated in W Meath. GPN, SGG & IF.
Big change!!
6 August 2006 - 12:29:58pm This site has gone open access!! Now anyone, without registering, can access details of people, subject of course to privacy restrictions. However do feel free to register too, to get access to more facilities and to be able to add to or change what's here. Sean
